Notes Dictation What's New Demo
Beginning in 2026, Sensei Cloud offers a voice-to-text feature you can use to dictate clinical notes and correspondence. To have Voice Dictation enabled for your practice, contact your Carestream Dental Representative.
IMPORTANT: Voice-to-text dictation tools can make transcription errors. Always check your entries for accuracy after dictation and edit accordingly before saving or sending.
When Voice Dictation is enabled, the microphone in the editing toolbar is enabled in the following interfaces:
- Clinical Note window (Anywhere you can insert a clinical note, for example: Patient > Clinical > Clinical Chart (EMR) > Add to chart drop-down list > Clinical Note)
- Clinical Notes Templates (Administration > Templates > Clinical Notes Templates)
- Send Patient Correspondence window (Patient > Correspondence > Actions menu > Send Patient Correspondence)
- Send Professional Correspondence window (Patient > Correspondence > Actions menu > Send Professional Correspondence)
- Send an Email window (Patient > Correspondence > Actions menu > Send Ad Hoc Email)
- Correspondence Templates (Administration > Templates > Correspondence Templates)
To use the Dictation feature:
- Click the Microphone
button. The microphone turns red with a circle around it
when recording is in progress.
Note: The first time using the feature, you are prompted to select a microphone. Select your preference. - Begin speaking.
-- Text is entered in the text box as you speak.
-- Sentences are automatically amended with a period during natural pauses. Any additional punctuation can be added manually after the recording is complete.
-- If you stop speaking for a few minutes, the recording stops automatically. You can click the button to begin again. - When you have finished dictating the note, click the red
to stop recording.
- Check your entries for accuracy and edit before saving or sending.
Dictation Settings
Team members using Dictation can customize the way the microphone "listens" and punctuates the transcription. This allows individual users to align dictation settings with their own speech patterns and pace to improve transcription accuracy and reduce the amount of editing required.
To adjust your Dictation settings:
- Select Administration> Team > Team Members, or select your User Name > My Settings. The Team Member Settings screen is displayed.
- Select your name and click Edit Selected Team Member.
-
Scroll down to Dictation Settings (AI Feature). Automatic is selected by default. To change the setting, click Pause Duration.
- Use the Pause Duration (Seconds) field to increase or decrease latency (the time before text appears in the text editor) based on the speech patterns of the user. The goal is to strike the right balance between accuracy and latency. A longer pause leads to longer audio chunks and better accuracy; a shorter pause decreases latency.
- Use the Maximum Phrase Duration (Seconds) field to limit the latency for the transcribed text to appear. This can be useful for team members who speak quickly with few pauses.
- Click Save Team Member.
