This feature is included as part of the Oral Surgery package, and as a value add-on for General Dentists and other Specialty practices. If you would like to have Implant Tracking, contact your Carestream Dental representative.
You can access Implant Tracking from the following locations:

Adding Implants to the Patient Clinical Chart (EMR)
You can add implant information while documenting a current appointment, or you can return to a previous appointment and add the information as needed.
To add implant information to a clinical chart:
- From the Patient tab, select Clinical > Clinical Chart (EMR).
- Next to the appointment date, select Add to Chart > Implants. The Implants card is displayed with the entry fields enabled.
-The Tooth/Quad field is populated automatically, if applicable.
-The Insert Date field is the date of service for the procedure, and is populated when the procedure is completed or posted.
-The Restorative DDS field is populated based on the active referral source (defined in the patient record) whose referral date is closest to the date of service. This is populated when the procedure is completed or posted. - In the Procedure field, select the relevant procedure from the list.
Note: This list is populated with the procedures defined for the patient in the last 90 days. - Enter additional details in the Manufacturer, Reference #, Lot #, Brand, Size, Removal Date, and Notes fields.
Note: If you enter a Manufacturer first, and subsequently the Brand and Size, the associated reference number is populated automatically. Alternatively, you can enter the reference number first (type at least 3 characters and the options display) and the associated Manufacturer, Brand, and Size are populated automatically. The Removal Date can be entered at any point, but it must be a date that is after the insert date (it cannot be on the same date). - Click Create Implants. The Implants card is saved in the patient's chart.
For more information, see How to Track Implants in the Clinical Chart (EMR).
Maintaining the Implants Master List
When Implant Tracking is enabled for your practice, a master list of implants is included in the software. The list items are available for selection when documenting and tracking the implants you place. You can customize the list at both the Manufacturer and Brand levels, so that only the implants you use are Active and available for selection.
To manage this list, go to Administration > Clinical > Implants.
For more information, see How to Manage and Update the Implant Tracking Master List.
Implant Tracking and Reporting
For practices using Implant Tracking, a worklist has been added (Location > To Do > Implant Tracking) to help you track the details of implant placements in your practice. You can specify a time period, and filter/sort by provider, manufacturer, brand, and Restorative DDS. For multi-location practices, you can generate this report by Location, or use the All Locations tab for the practice.
You can export the data to Microsoft Excel as needed.
For more information, see How to Generate an Implant Tracking Report.
Referral Source Merge Fields
Merge fields relating to referral sources are now available for selection when updating correspondence and clinical notes templates. These fields were previously available for the Referral Follow-Up List, but they can now be inserted into other types of correspondence and notes as part of those workflows.
When a referral source merge field is selected, it will pull data from the patient’s most recent active referral.
For more information, see How to Manage Correspondence Templates and How to Create Clinical Note Templates.
Hospitalization Fields on Medical Claim Forms
The hospitalization admission and discharge date fields in the claim record (Item 18) are now populating correctly, based on dates entered in the Additional Claim Information portion of the claim record.
(Location > Claims > [select Medical] > Edit Addl Info > Line 18)
For more information, see How to Submit Medical Claims.
Defects and Small Enhancements
14 additional issues were addressed, including:
- The NPI number for the Billing Provider is now populating and transmitting on claims.
- Dental Claims: Box 27 now includes and transmits quadrants.
- The Unapplied Payments report (Location > Financial > Applied Payments > Print Unapplied Payments Report) now excludes items that were corrected or removed.
