You can add patient medical alerts to the patient record at any time from the medical alert icon that is displayed throughout the patient-based interface, and anywhere the patient mini card is displayed. You can also manage these alerts from the Patient Snapshot or the Clinical Chart (EMR) screen.
Medical alerts and patient notifications are displayed next to the patient's name and contact information in the Patient tab.
Tip: Hover your mouse over the icons to display a tooltip.
To create a medical alert for a patient:
- Click the Medical Alert icon (red plus sign). The patient's Medical Alerts window is displayed, listing existing alerts.
Note: You can remove an alert by clicking the Trash Canicon next to it. A confirmation message is displayed, and you must click Remove Medical Alert to proceed.
- Click +New. The Add Medical Alert window is displayed.
- Click in the Search to add field and select an alert from the list. The alert is added, and the number indicator is updated.
Note: You can also type an alert that does not currently exist, and then click Create [Medical Alert Name] to add it to the Medical Alerts list. - Enter a note, if applicable.
- Click Add Medical Alert.
Note:
- You can also view a patient's historical medical alerts (along with their current active alerts) from the History tab of the Medical Alerts window.
- Use the Pencil icon to edit a medical alert, specifically, to add a note for the alert. Click Update Medical Alert to save the change.
- Click the History
icon next to an alert to view an audit log with entries such as when the medical alert was removed, edited, or created.
Managing the Medical Alerts List
If you are searching for an alert that is not in the list, you are prompted to create that alert. Click Create Alert to add it to the list available for selection.
Click Edit Types next to the search field to access the Manage Medical Alerts window where you can add or remove alerts from the list of available alerts, as well as edit an existing alert.
You can also manage the Medical Alerts list from the Administration tab (Administration > Clinical > Medical Alerts).
From the Clinical Chart (EMR) Screen
To add an alert from the Clinical Chart:
- Select Patient > Clinical > Clinical Chart (EMR). Any existing alerts are listed in the Medical Alerts panel at the top.
Note: Only four alerts can be displayed inside the panel at a time; you have to click the panel or the black triangle icon to view the rest of the alerts. The four entries that are displayed include the most recently added or edited alerts. - Click +New or inside the panel. A search field is displayed.
Note: You can click Edit Types next to the search field to display the Manage Medical Alerts window. - Begin typing to find and select the alert. The alert is added to the panel.
Note:
--If the alert is not present in the list, you are prompted to create it.
--You can remove an alert by clicking the Trash Canicon next to it.
