This article is for clinical team members using the XVWeb Imaging Software 3D Viewer Management tools to map a nerve canal and place an implant.
To analyze the 3D volume for an extraction or an implant placement, you sometimes need to locate the
mandibular nerve. When you have traced the jaw arch and created a reconstructed panoramic image, you can use the Nerve Canal tool to trace the path of the nerve canal.
Tracing a Nerve Canal
To trace a nerve canal:
- From the Curve view, in the reconstructed Panoramic view, select the Thickness tool to set the image to the thinnest value possible. This is to make sure you trace the nerve canal accurately.
- Place the Cross-section view at the opening of the mental foramen by selecting the magenta-colored control points (side-by-side arrows). The cross-section view can be changed to a 1x1 layout, if needed.
- From the left toolbar, enable the Canal tracing tool.
- Begin in the Cross-section view by a single click at the buccal of the mental foramen and click into the mental foramen.
- Click in the reconstructed panoramic image to visualize the nerve canal.
Note: If the nerve is not visible, roll your mouse wheel to adjust the image. The mouse wheel defaults to Slide but can be changed to Zoom on the left toolbar. - Double-click to stop nerve tracing. The Canal tool on the left toolbar is deactivated. You can click Undo or Redo as you are tracing by utilizing the Canal trace pop-up control in the lower-left of the window.
Tip: To verify that the nerve canal was properly identified, you can move through the Cross-section view and adjust it at any control point, if needed. - Click Save to save the canal tracing to the current file or click Save As to create a different file.
Modifying a Nerve Canal
To modify a nerve canal:
- On the left toolbar, click Options.
- From here, you can show, hide, or delete; change the diameter; or change the color.
Placing Implants
To place an implant:
- From the Curve view, in the reconstructed Panoramic view, position the cross-section to the location you want. You can adjust the angle of the anticipated insertion path. If needed, make a measurement using the measurement tools located in Labels.
- On the left toolbar, click Implant.
- Select the manufacturer from the Manufacturer drop-down list.
- Select the product from the Product drop-down list or go to the Favorites tab.
Note: You can sort the Implant library by selecting a column header. You can also highlight an implant and add it to your Favorites list. - Select the implant from the list.
- Click Add.
Note: Adjust the implant by using the yellow control point in the center of the implant to move it horizontally and vertically. Adjust the rotation by using the yellow control points on the circle. - Click Save to save the implant to the current file or click Save As to create a different file.
Modifying Implants
To modify a Implant:
- On the left toolbar, click Options.
- Select the Implants tab. From here, you can show, hide, delete, replace an implant by selecting a tooth icon; or change the color.
Enabling Implant Libraries
To enable Implant libraries:
- Click the user's name just above the right menu bar. When a user is active, you will see a green dot.
- Adjust the settings, as needed.
- Click Implant Libraries.
- Select the manufacturer to enable the library or deselect the manufacturer to disable the library.
- Click Apply.
